Vintage Japanese Koma Tower of Tops with Yajiro-kei Kokeshi Head by Ooizumi, Kiyomi (1936-1980)

This is a lovely and very unusual set of spinning tops all stacked up into a form of a Tower. There are a total of five tops and typical of Yajiro-kei the entire piece is brightly painted utilizing a veritable rainbow of colors, from the usual red and black to green, yellow, and even blue and purple. The stripes are referred to as Rokoru moyo and found on each individual stacked top. As for the unique head feature it has a painted beret-like feature or a bun on her head similarly painted with a red center spot. The face has a one lid or double eyelids, cat or pick shaped nose. The entire piece is made of the preferred wood being white dogwood, (mazuki). The piece is signed on the bottom by the artist.

Condition: Excellent meaning that the piece retains its original craft/workmanship and functions as intended, showing a wonderful-developed patina and is void of damage, cracks, breakage, or repairs and meets all the standards of the collectible Vintage Traditional Kokeshi Toys.
